Complacency

Definition: a feeling of contentment or self-satisfaction, especially when coupled with an unawareness of danger, trouble, or controversy.

Are you complacent?  Are you self-satisfied?  It is time to open your eyes and see what's going on around the world.  Governments are going bankrupt leaving their people totally unprotected and in poverty.  Food lines and riots are an everyday occurance.  I'm not a gloom and doom person but I do have a family that I need to think of.  If I'm prepared and nothing happens what's lost?  If I'm not prepared and something happens... well, that's another story all together isn't it.  I'm refusing to put my children in that position, I'm choosing to teach them to be prepared.  We are starting seeds for our garden now, we're getting our stuff together to prep the land and our raised beds (that the boys built last summer) for a garden this spring.  As a family we're learning about long-term food storage and being prepared for the worst (but praying for the best).
Years ago, before we had a comfortable existence we had a garden and canned what we grew, we had rabbits and chickens that we raised for meat and eggs, we had Nubian dairy goats that we milked and bred to sell the kids.  Now, we've got chickens for eggs.  We've become complacent, there is no nice way to say it.  We are purposing to fix that problem.  Join us in the journey, there is room for everyone and as I said before, it's better to be prepared and not need it than need it an not be prepared.

Genesis 41:53-54 ...the seven years of plenty which were in the land of Egypt ended, and the seven years of famine began to come, as Joseph had said.  The famine was in all lands, but in all the land of Egypt there was bread.

Taken Flight

Back on January 5, 2011 we took our oldest daughter to the airport.  After many months of preparation and fundraising Samantha was ready to make her 3 month trip to Bangkok, Thailand to work at Concordia Gospel Ministries.  We are so proud of her and all that she's accomplished.  Not only is she making friends she's helping spread the Gospel of Christ.  Her 3 months there will be life changing not only for her but many others.  Times have changed so much, in the past when someone went overseas it was very hard to keep in touch, with today's technology it is so easy!  Skype is a wonderful invention!  It really is balm to a mother's heart to be able to speak to and see with her own eyes her child on a daily basis.  Thailand doesn't seem quite so far away, but, April can't come soon enough!
Can you guess which one is mine?
Mark 16:15 And He said unto them "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature."

Ramblings from Mom7x

I told my self I'd never be a blogger...
Well, here I am blogging about what's on my mind.  This is really for my own benefit but if anyone else can can gleen anything from it that would be nice too.

My first question, what do you think about investing in gold and/or silver?  My thought on this, now is the time to diversify our investments.  Putting all of your eggs in one basket is a real silly thing to do at any time but now it is more important than ever to make sure you cover all your bases.  Having some in savings is good, it's liquid assets but banking (as seen in the recent past) can be unstable and basically unreliable.  Yes, it's backed by the FDIC but the FDIC is a government agency and right now is that who you want backing your money?  Gold and silver have historically been great investments, it is accepted in every culture/country around the world.  It is an asset that will continue to increase in value, it is a security that will give you comfort in times of plenty and a help in a time of need.

My second question, have you put in a garden?  It should be one of your spring projects. Even if you only have a patio or terrace you can have a garden.  Don't let your lack of space hinder you.  Container gardening is easy and fun, the fresh produce is better than any you can buy in the store and they take minimal care.  Larger scale gardening takes more effort but is infinitly rewarding.  You can have such a large variety of plants and the nutrition level is much better than store bought.  Using heritage seeds will give you the ability to store some seeds away for next year, hybrid seeds will not store well and you never know what you're going to get since they are genetically altered.

We are called upon to do our duty for our families, being prepared is important.  Having food storage, having a nest egg set aside for times of want will give your family a sense of security.  Your children will know you are concerned for their well-being and future.  In Biblical times, Joseph was a key player in helping Egypt prepare for the coming famine.  We need to be Joseph in these modern times.  Is your storehouse full?  Do you have enough to take care of your family in a time of need?  Can you look your children in the eyes and truthfully tell them everything is going to be ok?  Now you can, now you have access to the tools needed to be a Joseph to your family.

And just one more thing for my start of blogging; what about your spiritual self?  From "Daily Strength for Daily Needs" by Mary W. Tileston

These things I have spoken to you that in me you might have peace.  In the world, you shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. ~ John 16:33
It is rare when injustice, or slights patiently borne, do not leave the heart at the close of the day filled with marvellous joy and peace. ~ Gold Dust

God gives us the knowledge and tools to take care of ourselves and others, we need to use them and share them so others too can be prepared not only for this physical life but for the spiritual life.  Don't let this world get the best of you, take the measures needed daily to stay on solid ground.  Daily devotionals, scripture reading, and prayer.  Spending time with your family and friends brings true joy, don't let others tell you it's quality over quantity; quantity is quality.  Time spent in the Word and with your family is time well spent!
